CSR can boost employee engagement
If businesses prioritise corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmentally-friendly business practices, they will see improved levels of employee engagement, according to research by the Kenexa Research Institute.
A study conducted to coincide with Earth Day 2010, which took place yesterday (22 April), found that if workers consider their employers to be taking CSR seriously then they have more pride in their workplace.
Some 40% of the 1,000 employees questioned said they think their organisation is genuinely committed to CSR.
Anne Herman, research consultant at the Kenexa Research Institute, said: "Our research clearly indicates that organisations operating with a strong corporate responsibility climate have more engaged, confident and customer-oriented employees."
She added that the study also showed that businesses which implement CSR policies outperform their rivals on a series of financial metrics.
Recent research by the Metro newspaper and Harris Interactive found that workers prioritise a good salary, followed by a good working environment and getting on with their colleagues.
